Italy!

7 Jan 2011

An air plane which was going to Rome was making a big noise and finally got to Italy. This is the first time I came here so I was quite a little excited but I didn't feel I was here at the same time.

I was getting used to be here in Italy seeing the scenery on the way to Termini station from airport. I could see lots of colourful pizza shops and souvenir shops. Homeless people were laying on the road.

The bus took us to the station in 40 mins and a hostel I had already booked was just 5 mins walking. It's convenient. One of the stuff of the hostel told me that I was able to check in the hostel in 30 mins so I asked her for leaving my backpack so as to go around the city.

Firstly, I had pizza as breakfast which was prawns on the top. But it was 4Euros for a piece of pizza because of the location which is close to the main station I guess.

Then when I was wandering on the road freely, I found a ruin and I visited it curiously. It appeared that it was Terme di Diocreziano/ Bath of Diocletianus.

There are several baths in the ruin but it isn't many.

There is Santa Maria degli Angeli which is church just next to its ruin. I guess it's full of similar names in churches so it's not easy to memorise. The door of the entrance is impressing.

Afterwards I visited Santa Maria Maggiore cathedral and there are two chapels in the cathedral but one of which was closed so I couldn't enter unluckily.

Then San Pietro in Vincoli church. In the centre of the church there are chains which linked with St. Petro displayed. It was full of people especially around a statue of Moses which was made by Michelangelo.

It was getting dark and I saw a sunset when I came out from the church. I wanted to visit more as there were a lot of places I wanted to see in Rome. I walked toward to Pantheon before its the closed time, Pantheon is the largest stony building in the world. The centre of the ceiling has a hole to get sunshine.

The last one I wanted to visit was Trevi Fountain which was very famous for the movie called Roman holiday. Despite the time, it was full of people surrounding the fountain especially in front of it.

There is a gelato shop close to the fountain, I tried one with strawberry. Yummy yummy.

I went back to the hostel seeing illuminations.

As I went back to the hostel, it was 20:00, but I couldn't meet Nozomi who I met in Budapest and thought she wouldn't come, but in 30 mins, I heard the voice I recognised. Her train was delay also she went sightseeing at Verona.

By the way, I'm staying in a four bed dorm room wit only one key so we need to return back to the reception although we just want to a common room. It's not convenient at all!

Nervous

7 Jan 2012

I supposed to be nervous this morning so I woke up earlier than an alarm. The Norwegian guy had already left so I couldn't say good-bye. Checking out at the hostel, I took a tram and a bus to airport.

Bratislava is a small city and the airport is just 20 mins by the shuttle bus. Moreover the airport also small. I was still nervous as it was the first time I was going to take a flight after starting its journey.

My check-in baggage was 12.5kg, it's not too bad. I was quite sure that I would buy something in Italy.

Trencin

6 Jan 2012

I was walking its old town of Bratislava yesterday, I visited Trencin so as to see the castle. There are trains and buses to get there, but I prefer taking trains so I chose it. A only problem was that today is holiday. It would be closed today.

The outside looked as if It was raining as the road was wet. Hoped weather would be OK. The train for Trencin was full of people on. During the journey, it was pouring rain but when the train arrived there, it had been stopped raining.

I felt cold when I got off the train, I realised that it had still snow remained. The castle is seeable from the station and I just walked toward to the castle.

After buying a ticket for the tour, there is a distance to the castle with up hill. When I got the entrance, I was already tired.

If we take part in the tour, we can climb up to the tower which we can see a view.

The tour is just about 45 mins long. When I came out from the castle, there was a rainbow. During my journey with the car, I saw rainbows many times, but I haven't seen any since I became a backpacker.

A way back to the hostel, I met the man who I met at the hostel yesterday and we went to a cafe to see his pictures. He takes many many pictures for his projects.

Sightseeing

5 Jun 2012

I hadn't been sightseeing for ages so I was a little lazy to go around. I finally went out from the hostel to go to the Bratislava castle, but it was raining unfortunately so that I was waiting at a cafe for the moment and thinking of what to do.

I would be staying in Rome by the day after tomorrow but I had to pack within 15kg as I was going with LCC. So I decided to send my luggage to Japan and it was actually 2.6Kg which was heavier than I thought. I sent with 2nd class.

It took some times but It's done. When I came out from the post office, the rain was getting little. I walked toward to the old town. The old town itself was small, and I found it quick to see around its town, but there are some statues on the road so I quite enjoyed wandering then.

I visited Bratislava castle afterwards. It was built on the hill but it's not too high.

Aghhhh, It was closed at 15:00 today. We can see a view of the old town from the hill. It must have been beautiful, if it hadn't rained. Moreover, it was windy.

When I was walking around the old town again after the castle, I felt hungry. I had wanted to try Slovakian food so I looked for a restaurant which I can try it in. I had BryndzoveHalusky yesterday so I tried to have ZwmiakovaPlacka which is Slovakian style pan cake with spicy meat and vegetables today. It was big potion so I couldn't eat everything.

At 18:00, it was already dark in the dorm room!! It's too early to sleep. There is no common room there, I went to a fast food shop with my laptop. A woman entered and sat in front of me then said something with language which I didn't know. But I could predict what she wanted to say. I got a piece of chocolate when I ordered a cup of coffee、I gave her its chocolate so that she would leave alone.

Hope there will be a Japanese family restaurant where we can stay as long as we want.

By the way, I was apologised by the Japanese man who had been rude to me the previous day. He told me that he couldn't remember anything what he had said to me as he had been drunk, but he remembered that something had been wrong.

On the contrary, I met a interesting Norwegian man who speaks Russian. He has been learning Russian for 10 years so I was taught some Russian being explained with English. I enjoyed talking in Russian.

Bratislava

4 Jan 2012

It was pouring rain on the way to Bratislava. I hoped it would be stopping when I get there. I was lucky not to wet on my way to a hostel in Bratislava at the end.

I took a trolley bus to the city centre and walked from the stop. I hadn't carried my backpack for 10 days so I felt weird carrying it. I wandered the new town after checking in. But it was dark outside so I couldn't go sightseeing.

I walked a bit then found a restaurant where there is traditional food. I chose pasta with goat cheese and white wine. I had only a glass of wine but I got drunk soon as usual. No sooner did I get fresh air than I felt better.

When I went back to the hostel, I found a Japanese man and I talked to him, but I shouldn't have done it as he complaint about Russia and he told me that no one was into Russia and people from Toyama which is my home town are strangers etc etc. I didn't mind the man hated Russia, but the way he talked to me was a bit rude. Moreover, he tried to talk to me although our beds were far. I gave up talking with him. I wish he wouldn't speak like that or I had huge heart.
